Larkhill Open Space Project

Latest Update - 27th April 2011

Footpath from King Arthur Drive to Lawrence Way, Abbey Manor Park
A footpath linking Larkhill Road to Abbery Manor Park was upgraded in 2010/2011 and was officially opened in January 2011.  The need to improve the track was identified in a community "Planning for Real" consultation in 2005, with pupils from Preston School who use it as a route to school first raising the issue. Brympton Parish Council and South Somerset District Council have been working together since then to source funding, and it has now been completely transformed with an all-weather asphalt surface. Funding came from the parish council, a grant from Somerset County Councillor Sam Crabb, and from developers through planning agreements made by South Somerset District Council.

Neighbourhood Award 2009
The Royal Horticultural Society and South West in Bloom  awarded a Neighbourhood Award of "Outstanding" to the project.  The certificate was presented to the Parish Council at its meeting held on 23rd September 2009.

Opening of new bridgeReport - as at 19th August 2009

Footpath 2008
Funding for a footpath link and bridge from Abbots Way to West Brook/Acer Drive was  obtained from the County Council and the project completed in October 2008.  Mrs Lynne Lawrence opened the path and bridge in November.  The path leading from Thorne Lane to Preston Community School has now been named Lawrence Way, to commemorate Clive Lawrence, a former Parish Councillor, who was heavily involved with the project.

Darren Lashbrook, a part-time Ranger,  has been appointed and you will see him working on-site on Mondays and Fridays.
