Larkhill Public Open Space Project

Funding for a footpath link and bridge from Abbots Way to West Brook/Acer Drive has been obtained from the County Council.  It is hoped to have the path and bridge in place within two-three months.

Report from the summer edition of Newslink

It seems an age since we, as a parish council, first discussed the possibilities of improving the facility known as the Larkhill Open Space project. After many meetings, consultations and training courses, the project is now reaching the early stages of implementation and the following is a statement on where we are with this exciting project.

This project has been managed and co-ordinated by the parish council under the Planning for Real banner, utilising the consultation, participation  and decision making processes incorporated within the Planning for Real ethos.

Following the publication and issue of Newslink Larkhill Open Space Special edition earlier this year, and, together with our previous meetings and consultation exercises, a stand was organised at the Plant and Summer Fayre at the Abbey Manor Community Centre on 19th May at which your proposals listed within the Newslink Special edition were available for approval and/or amendment.

The Parish Council members in attendance were available for questioning on the issues and it was heartening to hear (without exception) the positive comments and acceptance of the proposals and the fact that the parishioners attending felt that they had been listened to and that they were looking forward to the proposals being implemented.

The initial area(s) to be tackled will be:

(a)     The Wiggly Path Between Poplar Grove/Elmleigh and Oak Tree Park:

The chippings to be removed and additional fencing and staggered barriers to be positioned. (at the time of going to press, good progress should be seen in this area).

Planting of trees and shrubs will be started in the planting season (starting September).

(b)     The removal of the steps at Acer Drive.

 (c)     Erection of some of the interpretation boards.

 (d)     The appointment of a part time professional Project Officer (costs being shared with SSDC) to write bids for grants and other funding.

 (e)     The appointment of a part time professional Ranger to look after the site and provide a regular presence.

We’ll keep you informed of progress
